About Me
Eva Karampa
I was born in Constantinople and raised in Athens, where I graduated from the German School and later studied decorative arts at the Doxiadis School. From a young age, I felt a deep connection to painting — a passion that has remained constant throughout my life.
My work draws from a variety of influences: mythical and animal figures, folklore, and the visual traditions of Africa, Asia, and the Mediterranean. I’m especially inspired by early Impressionism and Fauvism, both of which led me to develop a personal style focused on bold color, transparency, and emotional expression, often stepping away from rigid forms and geometry.
Core Skills
My experience in composition
My work is grounded in a strong sense of color, emotional expression, and visual storytelling. I focus on creating dynamic compositions that explore the relationship between full and empty spaces, using both paint and mixed media techniques. I often incorporate textiles and unconventional materials, allowing for a tactile, layered approach to image-making. Drawing from diverse cultural traditions — from Mediterranean folklore to African and Asian art — I aim to reinterpret symbolic forms through a contemporary, personal lens. Alongside my studio practice, I value collaboration and community, and I’m actively involved in group exhibitions and creative collectives that foster artistic dialogue and shared vision.
Tools Used
Tools I work with
Watercolor is at the heart of my practice — a medium I return to for its fluidity, unpredictability, and expressive depth. I work with high-pigment watercolor paints on quality paper, often exploring transparency, layering, and the subtle interaction of water and pigment. Brushes of varying softness and size allow me to shift between delicate detail and loose, spontaneous washes. I also use pencils and ink for outlining or adding contrast when needed. What draws me most to watercolor is its ability to capture emotion through light, texture, and movement — each piece becoming a conversation between control and chance.
Work Process
Steps I follow to complete work
My creative process begins long before the brush touches the paper. I draw inspiration from everyday moments, natural scenery, myths, dreams, and the emotional weight carried by memory and symbolism. Often, a color, a fragment of a story, or a quiet landscape will stay with me until it finds form on the page. I take time to observe — not just what is visible, but what is felt beneath the surface. I sketch, collect textures, and allow images to develop slowly, guided by intuition rather than rigid planning. Working with watercolor allows me to embrace spontaneity — letting the pigment flow, blend, and settle in its own way. I strive to create images that are not only visual, but also atmospheric — spaces where emotion, story, and color meet.
Team Fit
How I collaborate within the team
While I work independently in my studio, fully immersed in my personal creative process, I’m always open to commissioned projects or artistic collaborations. I approach each commission as a dialogue — taking time to understand the vision, context, or emotional tone behind the request, while staying true to my own artistic language. Whether it’s creating a custom piece for a private space, a thematic series for a public setting, or contributing to a collaborative art project, I welcome the opportunity to connect my work with others in meaningful ways. Each project is shaped by a shared understanding and mutual respect — and I see it as a chance to expand the story of my art in new and unexpected directions.
Past Work
Projects I’ve worked on
Since 2000, I’ve participated in numerous group exhibitions and artistic collaborations, including the volunteer collectives “Dreamteam” and “Acts of Romans” (2023 & 2025). I’m also a member of the Union of Artists and Writers of Ilioupoli. My first solo exhibition took place in Athens in March 2024, and my second, Dreams II, continues this evolving creative journey.
